Before attempting to make the dangerous climb up Death Mountain, many mountain climbers establish a base camp in Kakariko Village. There are many unusual characters in Kakariko Village, and Link should talk to all of them to get information that might be useful for his quest. Although it’s a small village, it is bustling with activity by day as the carpenters that Impa hired to build up the city go about their business. By night, strange characters haunt the village’s thoroughfares.

After exploring Kakariko Village, and acting on any clues he may get there, Link should be ready to take on Death Mountain. Link should find it simple to convince the guard at the gate to the Death Mountain trail to let him pass.

Beyond the gate, a narrow trail winds its way up the mountain side. Arachnid Tektites and sudden avalanches can make the going tough. About halfway up the mountain, Link will meet the first Goron, who will tell him about the calamity that has befallen his people. It seems that the entrance to the cave where they harvest their favorite rocks, Dodongo’s Cavern, has been sealed up by a giant boulder. Unless Link can find a way to remove the boulder, the Goron people will starve to death.

Further up the mountain, Link will find the entrance to Goron City, which is located in a huge cavern within Death Mountain. Most of the Gorons here are too hungry to talk much, and the head Goron, Darunia, has locked himself in his chamber. If only Link can get an audience with the Goron leader, he may be able to delve deeper into the mystery of the Dodongo’s Cavern.
