Q: Where can I buy The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?

Q: Where can I get the gold Collector’s Edition?

A: This version of the game was only available to those who pre-ordered the game, and was produced in limited quantities. It will be difficult or impossible to find at this point. However, there should be plentiful supplies of the general release version available.

Q: What is the difference between the gold Collector’s Edition and the general release gray cartridge?

A: Besides the color of the cartridge housing and the box, there is no difference in game play between the two versions.

Q: I've heared a lot of rumors about earning the Triforce. Is the Triforce in the game?

A: The Triforce is an important element of the game's plot, but it is not an item that Link can earn. On the Quest Status screen, there is a picture of the Triforce in the middle of the Spiritual Medallions. This picture is for decoration only, and cannot be filled in with the Triforce.

Q: I've earned the Water Medallion, but Zora's Domain is still frozen. How do I unfreeze it?

A: It is impossible to unfreeze the water in Zora's Domain.

Q: Is it possible to play as Sheik?

A: No.

Q: Can I get to the room in Hyrule Castle where the pictures of Mario and Yoshi are hung?

A: No.

Q: Is there a second quest? If I type "Zelda" as my name, does it do anything?

A: There are plenty of optional objectives to complete during Link's adventure, but there is no second quest. Entering your name as Zelda does not alter the game in any way.

Q: Are there any cheats or codes? If so, will Nintendo release them?

A: There are no known codes for the game, but there are tons of hidden things and secrets to discover. We’ll be revealing some of the secrets on our web site and in Nintendo Power magazine in the coming months.

Q: Do you need a Controller Pak to save your game?

A: No, you can save up to three games in progress on the cartridge. You cannot save additional games with a Controller Pak.

Q: I lost some of my game progress. What happened?

A: The game does not save automatically, so you must manually save your progress. You are prompted to save when Link is defeated, or you can access the save feature by pausing the game.

Q: Is this game compatible with the Rumble Pak?

A: Yes, you can use the Rumble Pak with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The Rumble Pak will react when you hit things with your sword, or are hit by enemies. In addition, once you get an item in the game called the Stone of Agony, you’ll feel vibrations when you are near hidden things.

Q: What are the arrows for on the overworld map?

A: The arrows indicate the next place Link must go while performing the Trading Sequence. This is an optional portion of the game.

Q: In Nintendo Power, it says there is a Heart Container on top of a house near the entrance to the Lost Woods, but I can’t find it. Where is it?

A: The Nintendo Power preview was written using an incomplete version of the game. This Heart Container was moved to a better hiding place late in the game’s development.

Q: The game seems sort of dark. Is something wrong with my cartridge?

A: Before starting a game, choose Options and use the "Check Brightness" gauge to determine if the TV brightness (not the game) needs to be adjusted.

Q: Can I skip through any text or cinematic parts?

A: Link can occasionally skip through some text by pressing the B Button, but generally not. The cinematic sequences can't be skipped at all. You can learn important information from these scenes, and some of them can’t be seen again, so you’ll want to watch them closely.

Q: Can I change the name of a save file?

A: No.

Q: I'm playing the right notes for a song, but it isn't working!

A: Although you can play the notes of a song at any time (for example, if you saw them in a Player’s Guide or magazine), the song won’t have any effect until you have actually learned it in the game.

Q: I press the Z Button to Z-Target, but when I let go the target is gone!

A: The Z-Target selection in Options is on the "Hold" setting. This means the Z Button has to be held to Z-Target. This setting is for advanced players. Go into the Options menu from the Select Game screen and change the Z-Targeting option from “Hold” to “Switch.”

Q: What does the three-digit number mean on the file select screen?

A: That's the number of times the Game Over screen has come up (does not include pressing Reset on the N64).

Q: I beat the game and now I'm stuck on a screen that says "The End." How do I save?

A: This is the game's ending. You cannot save your progress after defeating Gannondorf.

Q: I just got Zelda today and I have been searching high and low, but I can not find Link's freaking sword!

A: There is no “freaking sword” in the game, but search around in Kokiri Forest and you’ll find the Kokiri Sword. This game will require a lot of time and patience to find everything, so relax and explore everywhere!

Q: How do you bounce the nuts back at the Deku Scrubs?

A: Use your shield (hold the R Button to raise your shield).

Q: What does the Deku Scrub mean when it says “Twenty-three is number one!”?

A: He’s giving away the order to defeat his brothers in the room later in the dungeon. Of course, he might also be referring to his favorite basketball player...

Q: What should I do after I meet Princess Zelda?

A: Climb Death Mountain and visit the Gorons.

Q: How do you get the King's permission to go to Death Mountain?

A: Actually, you can’t get the King’s permission, but you can get the next best thing—a note from his daughter, Princess Zelda.

Q: Where is Saria?

They say she’s in the “normal spot”; where is that?

A: Saria is in the Sacred Forest Meadow, which is beyond the Lost Woods. You’ll have to find your way all the way through the Lost Woods to reach her.

Q: I think the gravedigger has the Hookshot but how do I get it from him?

A: Well, if you’ve read his diary, you’d know that he’s never going to give it up... at least not while he’s alive. You can’t get the Hookshot until you’re grown-up.

Q: I can’t find all the chickens in Kakariko Village, where are they?

A: As you walk around looking for them, listen for their cries.

Q: How do I get Darunia to help me?

A: He wants to hear a certain song.

Q: I am having a hard time finding the Goron Bracelet. I know that it is in the Goron City but I cant find it and I have looked all over. Can you help me?

A: Darunia will give it to you after he hears the song he wants to listen to.

Q: I'm in the Goron Cave, and I need to know how to stop the "Hot Rodder Goron" so that he can open up the "lava room" so I can light the torches and talk to the "Big Brother" Goron.

A: You don’t need to stop Hot Rodder Goron to open Big Brother Darunia’s room.

Q: How do you get a bomb bag so you can start buying bombs and carry them to blow up things?

A: The Bomb Bag is inside of the Dodongo’s Cavern.

Q: My question is about King Zora. He keeps complaining about his daughter. I don’t know what to do. Do I go out and look for her, and if so where?

Are there any certain items I should equip?

Could you steer me in the right direction?

A: The Zoras are looking for the missing Princess Ruto everywhere, even as far away as Lake Hylia. If you want to join their search, there is a tunnel in their cavern that warps to Lake Hylia, but you’ll need to get the Silver Scale to dive deep enough to enter it.

Q: How do you get Link to dive farther under water in Lake Hylia?

A: Play the Zora’s Diving Game. Take the passage to the left of King Zora to reach the game.

Q: How do I get Lord Jabu-Jabu to open his mouth?

I've tried just about everything!

A: He’s hungry.

Q: How do I put a fish in my empty bottle?

A: Stand near some fish and set an empty bottle to one of the C Buttons. Use that C Button when you are near a fish to scoop it out of the water.

Q: I keep catching fish (so I can go into Jabu-Jabu), but after I catch one, I never keep it! He always asks me if I want to keep it, and I say yes, but I never have it.

A: You can’t take fish from the fishing pond area. When the owner says you can keep it, he’s talking about keeping it in the tank near the counter. You’ll need to find a fish for Jabu-Jabu somewhere else.

Q: How do I go back to being young Link after I've grown up?

A: You need to finish a few dungeons as a grown up before you can return to being young Link through the Temple of Time. Sheik will then move off of the Pedestal of Time so you can thrust the Master Sword back into it. Replacing the Master Sword in the Pedestal of Time will transport you back to young Link’s era.

Q: I'm in the Forest Temple and I'm at the part with the twisting hallway, I want to know what do I do here?

A: Maybe there’s a switch that can “untwist” the hallway, so you can get farther into the dungeon!

Q: How do I use the horseback archery range in Gerudo Valley?

A: You must be sitting on Epona before speaking to the woman who operates the range.

Q: When I play the flute, the Great Fairy doesn't appear. Why?

A: You must first earn the Spin Attack from the Great Fairy who lives in the Great Fairy Fountain on Death Mountain. After that, the Great Fairy will be less shy at other locations.

Q: Why do these crazy chickens keep attacking me?

A: If you strike a chicken repeatedly, its friends will get mad and attack you. To stop the chicken assault, run away.

Q: Why can't I use any of my items while I'm swimming?

A: You cannot use a weapon while swimming on the water's surface. Once you find the Iron Boots, you'll be able to walk underwater and use the Hookshot as your primary weapon.

Q: I can't use any magic, but I have plenty of magic energy. What gives?

A: If a magic item is still in effect, like the shield that Nayru's Love creates, then other magic items can't be used. When the spell wears off, you'll be free to use the magic however you choose.

Q: What do I do at those stones that tell the time when I hit them?

A: The Gossip Stones are mainly for entertainment value, although it can be useful to know what time it is in Hyrule. If you wear the Mask of Truth and talk to the Gossip Stones, you can learn more about the world of Hyrule and even get some game tips from the stone. You can also get a small fairy to come out of the stones if you play a song in front of them.

Q: I'm in a room and the door has bars on it. How do I open the door?

A: In some rooms, Link needs to defeat all the enemies in the room to unlock the door with bars on it. Some enemies, like Keese, can be hard to see so search all areas of the room and use Z-Targeting to find the enemies.

Q: Can Link fight a boss again?

A: No.

Q: How do you get the horse?

A: Getting the horse is a somewhat complicated process. You can’t get her until you are grown up. You’ll also need Epona’s Song. As grown up Link, go to Lon Lon Ranch and pay to ride horses. Use Epona’s Song to call Epona, and mount up. While mounted, talk to Ingo. He’ll challenge you to a race. Beat him enough times, and the horse will be yours. There’s no real trick to beating Ingo, you’ll just have to practice and use your carrots wisely.

Q: I can't get off Epona. Why?

A: Once you beat Ingo enough times, you won't be able to get off Epona until you escape the ranch. It may seem like it's impossible to get out, but don't forget that Epona is an excellent jumper.

Q: I'm sick of being poor. How can I earn some rapid Rupees?

A: In Kakariko Village and the Market. there is a person who begs for you to sell him something "with C." If you offer him a bottled bug, he will cough up 50 Rupees. Even though you can only hold one bug per bottle, it will turn into three if you let it escape. Use this process to multiply your bug supply, and fatten your wallet in turn.

Q: What are those soft spots of soil for?

A: They’re good places to plant certain things. Set the thing you want to try to plant to a C-Button and use Z-Targeting to place it accurately in the small hole.
